Jung Moo Lee is the founder and music director of the Dallas Asian Wind Ensemble. He is the first native Korean conductor to earn a graduate degree in Wind Conducting. Mr. Lee has served as the assistant conductor of the Meadows Wind Ensemble and the 7:00 UNT Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, showcasing his broad experience in both conducting and performance.
Since taking the helm of the Dallas Asian Wind Ensemble in 2018, Mr. Lee has led the group through a wide variety of repertoires, with more than four regular performances annually. Notably, he has introduced numerous Asian composers’ works to the wind ensemble community. His leadership has earned him invitations to prestigious events such as the Dallas K-Pop Festival, the North Park Lunar New Year Festival, and the International Trombone Festival, where he received widespread acclaim for his conducting.
In addition to his conducting career, Mr. Lee is an accomplished tuba player, having performed with esteemed groups like the Daegu Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Civic Wind Ensemble, Dallas Pops, North Texas Wind Symphony, North Texas Symphony Orchestra, and Meadows Wind Ensemble. His accolades include being a 3rd place winner of the Pusan MBC Music Competition and a finalist in the UNT Concerto Competition. Mr. Lee has also performed at several international music conferences and festivals, including PASIC, ITEC, TMEA, WASBE, and the Crested Butte Music Festival. Currently, he is a member of the Center Stage Brass and recently performed as a soloist with the Rushing Middle School Band at the Midwest Clinic 2023.
Mr. Lee’s expertise extends to his work as an adjudicator, having served at events such as the International Tuba Euphonium Association’s VTEC 2021, TMEA All-Region Auditions, and many more.
Mr. Lee holds a BM in Tuba Performance from Kei-Myung University in South Korea, a MM in Instrumental Conducting from Southern Methodist University, and both a MM and DMA (ABD) in Tuba Performance from the University of North Texas.
